The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is starting on July 20th and to get your students excited, here are some activities to get to know the teams!
⚽️
Primary Resources
Activity One: Flashcards
For the first activity, split your class into pairs or small groups. Students can work together to look at the football-related vocabulary and then test each other to become more familiar. They could even make it a game: the one who gets the most words right wins!

Activity Two: Wordsearch
In this activity, students can work individually or in small groups. It will be helpful to have the flashcards with the vocabulary they have just learnt. They will now look for these 15 words in the wordsearch. Be careful – words can go up, down, sideways, or diagonally!

Activity Three: Colouring
Get your colouring pencils out for this activity! Your students can get creative while practicing their colour and clothes vocabulary. Students need to read the description of the football kit and use it to colour in the template.

Activity Four: Bingo
In the final activity, students can get to know the key players of the World Cup. First, let them each read over the fact files of the players before picking five favourites to make an ideal team (they don’t need to worry about the positions they play in!). Then call out the different players in a random order while your students cross out the ones they have in their team. The first student to have their whole team crossed out wins bingo.

Secondary Resources
Activity One: Flag Game
In this activity, students can work by themselves or in small groups to test their language skills and geography knowledge. There is a list of all the countries participating in the World Cup in English and students need to match them with the correct word in the other language and the flag of the country. If it gets tricky, have a peek at the answer key!

Activity Two: Crossword
For this next activity, students can get to know a bit more about the countries playing in the tournament. You can split the class into groups or let them work individually. This activity is like a normal crossword, only all the clues are in a different language. Students can try translating the clues or just spot key words to help them figure out the answers. Hint: look at the previous activity for the list of possible answers and flags.

Activity Three: Fill in the Gaps
In this final activity, it might be better for students to complete it individually, but they can discuss it in small groups. Students can get to know a specific country’s team a little better and find some words in a text taken from the FIFA website. They can then use what they have learnt from all the activities or their own knowledge to answer some opinion questions.
