The European Day of Languages, celebrated on the 26th of September, is a chance to explore some of the dozens of languages spoken on the continent. One of the most linguistically diverse regions of the world, these resources will open your students up to the huge diversity of languages across Europe, and the whole world.

Back to Basics:

In this activity, there is key basic vocabulary from a broad range of European languages. Take a look, practice speaking the languages aloud, and look out for patterns, especially across languages in the same table. What do you notice?

Match Up:

On this worksheet, you will find a column of European national flags, the country name (in their own language!), and the national languages (also in the native language). Use your geography knowledge to match up the flags to the countries to the languages of Europe.
